Hey all! Let me first say thanks to everyone for welcoming myself and Jake with open arms. It has made the transition into the work force much less intimidating! I am very much looking forward to the next 6 months at SHM!
I never thought it would be so difficult to name 3 interesting things about myself. I guess I’ll start with the fact that I have absolutely no idea what I want to do with my life regarding a profession. All I know is that I love working with people, I am a visual learner and I am very creative. I always thought that I would never want to sit at a desk from 9-5…but SHM has thus far proved me wrong. Over these last 5 days I’ve learned that there is so much more to this job than just sitting in my humungous cubical. So, now I’m even more confused about my professional future! Another fun fact about me is that I went to overnight camp for 7 years (my last summer was 2004) and they were probably the best years of my life. I met some unbelievable people and made some unforgettable memories. I sincerely hope that one summer I will get to just drop everything and be a counselor (what are the chances that will happen?). I am also a huge dog person. Before leaving for college I had never lived without a furry, friendly companion. I can confidently say that my mom is a bigger dog lover than anyone else in the world, so I guess I get it from her…? We currently have 3 dogs, 2 yellow labs (Lily and Pearl) and 1 black lab (Tess). We decided to breed Lily when I was 13, and we kept one of the puppies, Pearl! Tess is the oldest and a bit mental but she’s great and I love her! So, these are 3 random, fun facts about me! If you want to know more don’t hesitate to ask!
My first thought on Monday morning was WOW this is actually happening. I’ve known about this job for quite some time and the fact that I would actually be working every day for the next 6 months hit me the moment I walked into the door. I was a bit intimidated because it’s a new environment and I had never worked a “real job” before (only small summer jobs). I have to say that by the time I left I was still kind of confused about what I would actually be doing during this co-op. But, I was also very excited to continue to learn and work in such a great environment.
Now that I have completed my first week, many thoughts have changed. I am still excited to continue to learn, but I have also had some experience of what my job entails. I want to say this now so I can look back in 6 months and see how I feel…doing membership really isn’t that bad! Other than that, this week has made me pumped to start everything else.
My 6 months at SHM will be beneficial to say the least. I am ready to have more of a grasp on what I want to do “when I grow up.” Or I could just never grow up…we shall see!
