My theme of the month would be e-mail marketing. It is something that SHM stresses very strongly with a pretty strict schedule to organize the department and a report card to assess performance. Working with Nadia for the Monday Morning Meetings has given me some serious insight into what goes into keeping our emails on track. But you all have had experience with emails, especially with Emsavina conceptualizing and designing a checklist email each month that is sent to our full database. So…
1. When users unsubscribe from an email they are not interested in, they do not receive any other emails from SHM. We discussed some ways of resolving that process in our last Monday Morning Meeting, what are some other ideas that you have? (Hint: check August 31 minutes if you don’t remember them.)
2. As a consumer or prospect of other companies/organizations, what will lead you to open/read/click-through on emails? Are these things that SHM meets?
3. What would you change about the way SHM evaluates their e-mails? (Hint: look to the previous report cards, schedules, and Metrics of the Weeks.)
4. Is there a more significant value in opting to join a mailing list rather than being solicited from a third-party? Consider it from a corporate standpoint and from your own personal email usage.
From these questions, I hope that everyone would get a better understanding of how email marketing is a big part of the department and our marketing efforts. There are many areas of improvement with emails – even for large companies. In many ways, we are new to the ins and outs of it and hopefully some great ideas will come out of a discussion.
