My worst traveling experience came back in 2001 on a trip to visit my family in Mexico. This was shortly after 9/11 so security was obviously very tight. Usually the trip is a smooth transition from Philly to Dallas then straight to Puerto Vallarta. As my family and I boarded our connecting flight we realized something was wrong when the flight attendants told us we would be in a delay for a security check. After an hour of sitting and waiting security pulled everyone off the plane and announced that they found bullet shells on the plane as passengers were loading. We were one by one taken off the plane into a screening room and strip searched for over an hour. Everyone’s luggage was also taken off to be screened again. Five hours later we eventually got back on the plane headed to Mexico.
I have travelled many times by myself including overseas. I can personally tell you it is really not scary at all. My tips for you Meredith would be to make sure you keep all your paperwork and identification on you at all times to make everything quick and easy. The best advice anyone can give you is leave plenty of time between getting to the airport and boarding your flight, you’ll never know how long something might take. Other than that enjoy your trip I’m sure you will have a great time.
