Ironically, my worst travel experience occured when I was travelling alone. It was when I had just graduated 8th grade and my graduation gift from my grandparents was a plane ticket to visit my aunt, uncle, and cousins at their home in Florida for a week. I was so excited but like you are now, a little freaked out! It was the first time I had been on a plane since 9/11 so I was a total basket case. But, actually it wasn't bad at all! The issue happened when I got there. We were at my aunt's parents' condo in Key Largo and my uncle took me out on their boat to go fishing in the ocean. I had never done this before and I was so excited. Well, I got out there and only had one soda the whole 4 hours we were out there and I started feeling sick. Not being much of a boat person, I thought I was just getting sea sick and that I would be fine when we got back to shore. Well, my uncle dropped me off and then took his family back out and within 15 minutes I was getting sick all over the place. It was the worst pain and the sickest I have ever felt in my life. I tried calling my uncle but he had no reception in the middle of the ocean and I couldn't get a hold of them. I was so sick and totally alone in an unfamiliar place and had no idea what was wrong. I later found out I was immensely dehydrated and sunsick. That was definitely the worst time I've ever had while traveling. What did I learn? To stay away from boats! And if I do, to make sure I drink A LOT.
But, despite that bad experience, I had a great time and I liked travelling alone so much, I have done it 2 more times since then. Once more to Florida, and again to Chicago to visit family. Both were great experiences and I think you are going to have a great time! I don't really have any travel tips specifically for travelling alone, but some general ones I guess would be..definitely have stuff to keep you entertained like a good amount of magazines, a really good book, your iPod etc. A good snack since I am assuming your flight will be roughly 4 hours? And when I went to Disney this summer, they didn't even give us those little pretzels! It was these crappy little cookies that tasted like cardboard. Definitely bring your own. Haha. Wear flip flops (despite the cold weather) and don't wear any jewelry to get through security faster. Wear extremely comfortable clothes. Pack one outfit and your phone charger in your carry on bag just in case the luggage gets lost. Uhm..I can't think of anything else. But, if I think of any more between now and Wednesday I will let you know haha. Overall, just stay calm, don't freak out, and I am sure you will have an awesome time!! :)
