What is the worst travel experience you have ever had? What did you learn from it?
And of course - any travel tips for traveling alone are very much appreciated!
Looks like everyone really got into this one this week, so here's my best shot.
The worst travel experience I ever had would probably be in 7th grade when I went to Boston, MA with my middle school class. Similar to Meredith’s situation (except I was 13*), it was the first time I had ever traveled alone without my family and I was pretty nervous. To make matters worse, not only was I on my own, but it was a whale watching trip. And for anyone who knows anything about whale watching, you essentially ride around aimlessly on a boat and watch the ocean. After going twice in one weekend, I didn’t even make out one dorsal fin. Also, I didn’t have any good friends on my boat with me because we were split into groups. So, for the majority of the time I was by myself getting sea sick and losing money. To cap off the weekend, the last day we were in the hotel, I lost $40 . So after that whole experience, the things I really took away from the trip was, 1. I get sea sick, 2. Whale watching is about as fun as watching paint dry, and 3. Never go on a school trip again.
Tips for Meredith:
Be sure you bring everything you need, but don’t over-pack.
Make some new friends.
Bring a jacket; I don’t believe you that it’s not cold there now.
Have fun!
