Most embarrassing moment

My most embarrasing moment is definately all of those times I pull the door in instead of push it; Elaine always laughs at me for not following the directions. I've also spent 10 minutes looking for my ID on the elevator on my way up to work and then random "other" workers tell me to sign in to get to the 5th floor. I then have to tell them that I'm actually working here! Everyday brings something new but these are the little things that get me the most embarrased!

Embarrassing Moment

My most embarrassing moment was probably when I dropped Debra's fish tank on the floor while I was cleaning it. It fell off the counter and all the gravel went everywhere which took forever to clean up. Luckily the fish were not in the the tank but I still managed to make a mess that needed help fro other people cleaning up. Since then I have been very careful when cleaning the fish tank.

embarassment.

Well, my entire life could be summed up pretty easily as one very long, drawn out, extremely stressful, intermittent, fit of embarassment. I'm okay with it though.

My most embarassing moment at SHM happened pretty early. The end of our first week, during our "Creative Brief 101" session, I somehow managed to nearly ruin the meeting table in 'Phillies'. We were designing creative brief ideas for Leadership Academy, and my highly intelligent, newly employed self, didn't think to put anything underneth the paper I was using. I managed to cover a pretty large section of wood with colored PERMANENT marker stains. Great first impression, really. I then spent about an hour scrubbing the same piece of wood, and used almost an entire container of lysol wipes. The worst part was that Todd and Ashley were trying really hard not to look upset, but I could tell they weren't thrilled. I felt awful. I thought they were going to fire me on the spot! Thankfully, by the time it was almost 4:30, I managed to get all of the pink and purple streaks off of the table (: It's funny now, but at the time I wanted to go hide somewhere.

Obvious

It's pretty obvious that my most embarrassing moment was tap dancing infront of the whole staff! I made the mistake of letting TVD know I can tap dance lol. It wasn't that bad, but the floor in the hub was hard to dance on at times. The most embarrassing part about performing was that some of the staff thought I CHOOSE to do this. It also didn't help that I was being video taped! All in all it was a fun time.

Embarrassing

What's your funniest memory/most embarrassing moment since working at SHM?

The most embarrassing moment for me so far for me came in the first couple weeks I was here. Since this was pre-dual monitors, I used to bring my personal laptop to work. So one day after work, I had been downloading some music at my house. The next day I came into work and opened my laptop as usual to start my days work. Not knowing the application was still open, I continued to use my laptop, while my application continued to download music. However, I did not even realize it was opened and running, nor did I realize that the bandwidth for the entire office could barely handle a single GB file being downloaded. So, I had IT searching the whole office for a computer who was slowing the whole internet server. Eventually, Brett and Sean discovered the computer causing the internet to slow was a Mac. Granted I was one of three Macs throughout the entire office, it was pretty easy to locate me after that. And that's my embarrassing story.

Office Pranks

As most of you know, the funniest and most embarassing thing to happen to me at SHM was when my phone got put into the ceiling. For those that don't know, this is when various members of the staff (cough meredith cough) got Faizen to put my phone in the ceiling when I had left it at my desk. Upon returning to my cubicle, I had noticed it missing and, essentially, freaked out. Eventually, I had Michael call my phone and thats when I heard it above my cubicle. After several falled attempts to retrive my phone, Faizen got it out for me. Upon further investigation, I found that this was done, identically, to one of the staff members in the popular TV show "The Office" starring Steve Carell. Funny enough, the guy with the nickname Tuna in that show is the one who pulled the prank, not the one being pranked.

funny/embarassing

I may change my mind on this one later this week if I think of something better but...for now, my funniest memory was taking our Center holiday photo. It was really funny walking around in reindeer headbands, elf hats, santa outfit & menorah hat and having everyone walk by really confused about what we were doing. It was priceless seeing everyone's reactions. :) My most embarassing moment was then checking my email the next day to find that the picture was sent out to the whole staff...
Okay, to be honest I'm a little hurt that nobody wants my job. I mean, really? Come on!

So here's the question for this week:

What's your funniest memory/most embarrassing moment sinc
e working at SHM?

Z

Bob Z. To be honest I'm not 100 percent sure what it is that his job entails, but he's such an interesting character that I'm sure it would be a fascinating--and challenging--experience. I'm fairly bad (actually really bad) with numbers, but working in the finance department would be a great way to boost my math grades. I also believe it would provide a different type of insight into the day to day operations of SHM. Working in membership I'm exposed to more interpersonal relations, but I would love to find out more about our operations and challenges as a business. It would also be hilarious to be Pam's boss for a day! (Since she's always giving everyone else a hard time, it would be lovely to get back at her :) lol )

But in seriousness, I have a lot of respect for the finance department. We quite obviously could not successfully exist without them, they keep our doors open. I'd like to join them for a week, JUST a week. I can only handle so much math...

Opportunity

If you could trade jobs with one person at SHM for a week who would it be and why?

Trading places with a fellow SHMer would be a great experience. If I were granted such an opportunity, I would take advantage of it to gain more knowledge in my area of study, marketing. As a co-op, we are given large responsibilities, tasks and deadlines we are expected meet. However, there are positions in the marketing department, which hold even greater responsibilities and demand higher expectations. That is why if I could, I would trade positions with Ashley to become the Senior Marketing Manager for a week. Ashley holds a managerial position, meaning she is able to oversee marketing and make sure the department is working up to potential, effectively and efficiently. This would be a great experience, for one day I would like to land a senior marketing position, similar to where Ashley is at today. Learning the appropriate methods to manage budgets, approve documents and advertisement and also, dealing with Perfexion handling the web metrics is all extremely useful information to gain. Overall, learning how to manage a marketing team would be the most intriguing aspect of the position.

Trading places

In the education department, we work very closely with membership so I would definately trade jobs with somebody in that department. The specific person who has the job I believe is the most intriguing would have to be Dee Dee; her job seems to be very complex and I believe I would learn a lot in a week from a job like that. I would also like to experience what it's like to work on the other side of the office near the windows! Seriously speaking, I believe it would be very interesting to see the membership point of view of SHM! The end ...

Trading UP!

If I could trade jobs with one person at SHM for a week it would have to be Bobby Z. As you all know Bobby Z is Vice President of Finance. There has always been a part of me that wanted to be an accountant, well maybe because it runs in my blood! My mom is a controller and loves her job. I have always been good at math, embarrassingly put a grade higher for every math class I took in middle school/high school. So if I had the chance to work in the Finance department, mind as well go big!

Trading Jobs: SHM Edition

Trading Jobs with someone here at SHM isn't really feasable, but I'll play along. Assuming that when we switch jobs, I'll instantly have the knowlegde and ability to do said job, and that they can do mine, I would have to pick Kris' job.

You see, I don't want to go outside of the IT world because I'm not one for doing business work that isn't either A: Manual Labor, or B: IT work. If it isn't either of those, I'd much rather quit than do whatever that work entails. Not because I think the work is boring, pointless, or monotonous, because I am not fit to do anything else. I can't do marketing, membership, QI, HR, finance (someone's losing money if they put me here), government work, or managerial work. Out of those 7, the only one I might be interested in is managerial work. But even then, I'd need a lot of training.

So, because of that, I'd pick Kris' job. This is because I've had an interest in programming. Everything from planning, to designing, to developing, to implementation. I also have a strong school-based background in programming. I am well versed, or so I'd like to believe in several Programming Languages: Java, C++, Python, HTML, Javascript, CSS, and PHP. I had three years of Java Programming classes in high school, two of witch were AP classes, C++ course at my local community college while I was a senior in high school, Python, HTML, CSS and Javascript in my first year at drexel, and PHP in my second. Having such a large background in programming makes it farily easy to learn a new one if needed.

To those who don't know, Kris is a Web Developer. He codes various websites here at SHM as well as web-based applications. For example, he got everything set up for LiveZilla. He didn't program the application itself, but he did integrate it into the website and worked with Brett to get a server up and running for LiveZilla. He also did a bulk amount of coding, if not all of the coding, for the online fellows application.

His job is very programming heavy, and being that I like to program, but have no real-world experience with it, I would love to be in his shoes for a week so that I can get a better understanding of what programming is like on the job.

Trading Places

If I had to trade places with another SHM employee for a week I would probably choose Dan. Although I have no experience at what he does, I find his job very interesting. Last week I got a chance to do some designing with him and Kat and it was pretty cool what he does on a daily basis. Although he has a very crucial role in managing the company website, I like being put under pressure to complete something of importance and have a completed project to look at in the end.

hmm..

I don't think I would really want to change jobs with anyone. Being a Nursing major, I'm most interested in QI related things, hence my current position. If I could trade jobs with anyone it would probably be someone else in my department just so I could learn even more about specific QI projects and gain more knowledge that would be applicable to my career. More specifically, while all of the programs interest me, I think I would probably lean towards Ann because her QI project is Glycemic Control (Diabetes Management) and I have family members who have had Diabetes for pretty much their whole life. So, I feel like having the opportunity to learn more about management methods would allow me to help them in some way which would be pretty awesome.

However, I feel like choosing someone in my department is the easy answer..So, I guess if I had to trade jobs with someone at SHM who was NOT in my current department, it would probably be someone in HR. I feel like it would be interesting to hear people's complaints and know that I had the ability to help better the workplace. In addition, I think it would be fun to interview potential employees.
Good Morning everyone. Thank you for your creative questions last week. I'm going to use one of your questions but change it just a little bit. It's the one that stuck out to me the most (no offense).

If you could trade jobs with one person at SHM for a week who would it be and why?

What?

This question is perfect for i LOVE to ask questions!

1.) If you had to pick a cartoon character that resembled you, who and why?

2.) What are the top 5 best moments of your life?

3.) Say you go to a pyschic and were able to see your future, which is you being homeless. What do think would be the reason for you living on the streets?

4.) If you were given the choice of either having to be extremely hot at all times or cold at all times, which would you choose and why?

Yes, these questions are weird I know!

Quesions Four the Future

If you were in charge of the blog for one month, what 4 questions would you ask the others? Note: these may or may not be used for future blog posts!

1. If you had to move somewhere outside the United States to live for the rest of your life, where would it be? And why? (Be specific, city and country)

2. If you could have any position/occupation in the world, what would it be and why? It can be anything from the CEO of Facebook to a professor at Drexel University. Be specific! (If it’s a sports team, name the team and position. If it’s a fashion designer, for what brand?)

3. From a marketing prospective… Name the most creative/innovative marketing concept you can think of to attract attention for a product or gain brand recognition for a company. You can pick the brand or company you would like to market. And then introduce your creative marketing tactic to get it noticed.

4. Everyone has goals, achievements, activities and general things they would like to accomplish by the end of their lifetime. Name 3-5 things on your “bucket list” you would like to complete.

"?"

I'm stumped. I know they're boring, but this is the best/most appropriate I could come up with!

1. What is your favorite and least favorite thing about the other interns? (lol)
2. What will you miss the most when you leave SHM?
3. What's your funniest memory/most embarassing moment since working here?
4. What's your theme song/background music?

I promise I did not google these..

If I had 4 questions..they would be:

  • Post only a video (no description) that describes how you feel about your life right now

  • What was your most life changing experience?

  • If you had to pick one reality show to be on, which one would you choose & why?

  • Have you ever been told you look like a celebrity? If so, who? If not, who do you think you look like? (provide pictures!)

Don't Question This

If I had to pick four questions to ask the others, they would probably be questions that are interesting and give insight on the person being asked.

1) Where do you see yourself in 10 years? (location, career, etc)

2) What were your childhood dreams for a career?

3) If you could change one thing in your life what would it be?

4) What is one of your strangest habits and why?

IF I had four questions....

If I were to pick four questions they would all be fun! My questions would be something like this...

1.)

If you had to live in another country besides the United States for a year where would you live and why?

2.)

If you could trade places with one person for a week who would it be and why?

3.)

Are you superstitious? What superstitions do you believe in?

4.)

What will you be doing on December 21st, 2012?

Four Questions Enter, Only One Question Leaves...

If I have to explain the title, you won't understand it.

A month of questions eh? Running out of ideas for questions Meredith? Ha, ha I only jest. If I had to produce the next four questions, two of them would be standard questions, another would be a very thought provocative question, and the last would be a fun one! So, in that order, here are my four questions:

1) We all know of the seven deadly sins, can you name a time where you or someone you know acted upon one of the seven deadly sins, realized their mistake, and corrected themselves?

2) What piece of the modern world (technology, social construct, ect. anything goes) would you absolutely not be able to live without, and why?

3) Give us your "words to live by." It could be a sentence, a phrase, even just one word, but it has to be something you live and die by. Something so fundamental in your life, that if you broke it, your life as you know it would begin to crumble.

4) You are given the option to have any ONE superhuman ability or power. One and only one. You cannot chose a genre of superpowers (psychic, healing, ect.) you can only choose one specific superpower (Telekinesis, Mind Reading, healing wounds, healing minds, ect.). You can't just answer with your superpower either. You must explain why you want that superpower more than any other and what you would use it for (Good or Evil!). What would your superpower be?

Now that everyone has FINALLY posted in the blog, here is the question for this week:

If you were in charge of the blog for one month, what 4 questions would you ask the others? Note: these may or may not be used for future blog posts!

"Success is what you make it"

Define success in your own words

Each individual has a unique way of defining and interpreting success. However, success to me is attaining a goal that you set for yourself. Setting an end goal for anything is an integral part of success that some people tend to overlook. How are you supposed to know what success is, if you didn’t know what you were trying to achieve in the first place? And the goal does not always have to be an amazing accomplishment like becoming a millionaire or making it to the NHL. You can achieve success by setting realistic goals for yourself and making them reality. An example as simple as losing a couple pounds each month or improving your test scores in your math class. Success is what you make of it and how hard you’re willing to work to attain success. My goal last summer was to find a co-op that would give me the best opportunity and experience; so I gave it my all in every interview I was granted. My success there, was finding that job I was going to benefit from the most. My team’s goal at the beginning of the season was to make it to the national tournament for the first time in our programs history. And so far we have worked as hard as we could each game, earning a 7-1 record (1st in the ECHA) and are on our way to achieving that goal. But even if we don’t make nationals, at the end of the season we can look at each other knowing we gave it 100% every shift and that is the biggest success of all.

Success is

a personal satisfaction and pride in the effort put forth as well as the result. I measure success by the happiness that follows. If I know that I gave my best, and that my best was enough, I feel I've been successful. Of course, there is always joy in positive feedback, but I don't think approval is necessarily a concrete standard of measurement for how successful or unsuccessful one is. If you're able to confidently say, "I'm happy with my work," and more importantly, "I enjoyed doing it," then that's really what matters. Success and happiness go together well, and in my world I can't have one without the other.

My Success

I define success as the outcome of a goal obtained. I also weigh success from social status, wealth, and personal achievement. You never hear anybody say someone with a subpar job is generally “successful”. For me to be successful I would need to achieve my career goals which come into mind first and foremost around the word success. Generally success is based off income status and to a large extent I believe that’s true. In order to personally be successful I would also need to establish myself in society the way I have always pictured. The word success is a very open word and many see it differently and the way it affects their life.

Striving, Obtaining.... Success

Success is more than just money or power. It's about having that feeling of accomplishment that you completed what you set out to do. This can be different for everybody but depends on the individual's personal goals for themselves! People who define their success through material things will never be happy because you will never be satisfied with what you have and you will just want, want, and want to fill a void. In reiteration, success is more definable by the goals you set for yourself because they make you a better person and build more character.

Should I be PC or just honest?

Now to many what I am about to say is going to be viewed as wrong, but my version of what I believe success to be is all driven by money. Yes I said it. I can sit hit and pretend to be philosophical and pretend it has to do with how a person feels inside, but what's the point? I love being different.

To me success is having the big-time dream job, money (lots of it), nice car, and huge house. I don't believe in families, so having a happy little family is not what I foresee as the whole package of success. I feel drive to be on top and then getting there is the ultimate success.

“Success means having the courage, the determination, and the will to become the person you believe you were meant to be”

Success..on a general note, I feel that most people often associate "success" with some kind of personal accomplishment. What is considered a success differs from person to person and is affected by many factors such as lifestyle, environment, goals, dreams etc.

In my opinion, this is not true success. Success is more of a state of mind that is constantly being developed. Success is constant personal growth. Success is always thinking positively and seeing the glass half full. Success is learning from failure and using what you've learned to perservere. Success is never giving up. Success is always striving to be better than what you think is your best. Success is finding happiness in every situation, no matter what. Overall, I guess Success is really what you make of it and can be anything you want it to be..that's just what success is to me.

How Many Pounds of Success Per Square Inch?

Unlike air pressure, which is in fact messured by pound per square inch, success cannot be measured so easily. Success cannot be measured on a scale, or by a metre stick. By the way, the International System of Units (SI) which uses metres as opposed to our system which uses feet, is a much better sytem than ours. Success, also, cannot be measured by someones wealth.

Success in the eye of the beholder. Success is very subjective, much like beauty. Also like beauty, your view on success should have no influence on how you view another person. In order to comprehend this idea, imagine yourself in a car, speeding along the highway at a safe speed of 55 MPH. In your rear view mirror, you see someone FLYING down the highway at a very dangerous speed of 95 MPH. From your perspective he will be going forward at a rate of 40 MPH. This is because you are going forward at a rate of 55 MPH. 95-55=40. HOWEVER, from his perspective, you are actually going backwards at a rate of 40 MPH. Just flip the equation: 55-95 = -40. This is a direct example of Einstines Theory of Relativity.

Success is the same. YOUR view on success will greatly differ from someone elses view because it is from their perspective.

Another example? ok fine, you talked me into it. Everything you experience, physically and mentally, is relative to you. Physical Example: Earth rotates at a speed of roughly 1,000 MPH. But, we are on Earth, rotating with it. Therefore, we are rotating with the Earth at a speed of roughly 1,000 MPH. Because we are moving at the exact same speed and direction, you can't tell its moving. to be even more drastic, the Earth revolves around the sun at 67,000 MPH. I'm not even going to tell you how fast our solar system revolves around the center of the galaxy. Mental Example: your place in the financial world is different from everyone elses. Lets say you make 60k a year. not bad, but not great. From your perspective, people that make more than you are rich, and people who make less than you are less fortunate. However, to someone who makes more than you, you are the less fortunate. Also, to someone who makes less than you, you are rich. Everything not on a grand scale (AKA the definitive scientific variables: speed of light, pi, ect.) is measured from some sort of perspective, be it yours, theirs, or someone elses.

That was a lot. but to sum it all up. The measurment of success is completely dependant on who is measuring it and their definition of success.

Now that I have explained how one measures success, I can properly give you my definition of success. My definition of success isn't based on wealth, isn't based on a general scale of achievements. My definition of success is "have you satisfied yourself? Your own goals? Your own Ambitions?" If you can difinitively answer these questions with a resounding yes, than you are successful. To further explain, you can not be told by someone else if you are successful or not, only you can make that decision. If you are happy with what you have done in your life, accomplished in the world, impacts you have made, than you are successful and no one can tell you otherwise.

Am I successful? No. I still have plenty of goals and ambitions I am working towards. I am happy with what I've done so far, but I still have a lot to do. No, I'm not successful, but I'm well on my way.
Define success in your own words.
