1 week down, 19 to go

Can you believe it? You've already finished your first week of co-op! Time flies, when you're having fun (and hopefully, you all are!)

So with one week under your belt in a new environment with new faces and some familiar (hey, Cassidy!) how are you feeling? Did you like your "orientation?" What could we have done better? And lastly, what are you most excited for in the next 6 months?

For me, personally, I moved out of the M&M department (sad face!) so now I'm sort of disconnected from the new round of MAs. It's weird not being in contact with you three all of the time, but I hope we get to work together a lot more these next six months, because I know you will be a fun group to work with. I can't wait to get to know you all better and have some fun times!

So how am I really feeling? At this moment I am stuffed from eating lunch with Cassidy, Tom, Kristen, and Kristen but otherwise I feel more confident and comfortable in my new home :). The first day was a little shaky not knowing anyone and of course it all started when Tom left me at the shuttle stop all by myself. Since then he has started to wait for all of us to walk together. Overall, I love the open and fun but also professional environment that SHM offers.

Along with the environment, I really enjoyed the orientation process. The schedule every morning was a great way for me know what I was going to be doing all day and to transition into this co-op. I thought it was interesting to learn about the different specialties and programs each staff member contributed to. I also enjoyed the Personal 101 sessions because it helped me to better understand who I will be working with for the next 6 months. By learning about my fellow coworkers I will be able to apply the core values to assist them both personally and professionally when needed.

Besides learning about my fellow coworkers I thought the company 101 sessions were important for not only the MAs but also for the other co-op students. The company 101 sessions provided a greater understanding of the various departments within SHM. If I could change anything about orientation it would be having Industry 101 earlier in the week. If Industry 101 was earlier in the week it would give the co-op students a greater understanding of SHM as a whole to better apply to the other 101 sessions.

So what does it look like for the next 6 months? I made it through one week so it looks like you are stuck with me for another 6 months (sorry Christine). I hope that within the future months I gain an even greater understanding of the company as well grow as a person. I am excited to see how not only I grow personally and professionally but Cassidy and Tom as well. This is such a great experience and I am sure that I will enjoy being at SHM for the next 6 months.

Great point about doing industry 101 sooner Lexi...it was held up a bit b/c of my schedule which as you have seen, can get a little out of control :->

M - sorry for the sad face...we'll just have to find reasons for everyone to come to our neck of the woods a fair bit too!
