Last, But Not Least

I figured since I'm usually the last person to post I shouldn't change that for the last week.

Also, since everyone is writing creative raps and poems I'm not really sure how I can top them. I was going to write a rap, but Kirstin already did that.

All I have left to say is that I've had a great experience working for SHM. It's honestly the most enjoyable job I've had and it was a pleasure to work with everyone on the staff, from the marketing team all the way to IT. Everyone at SHM represents what the company is all about and I hope the culture remains the same for years to come. I hope we can stay in contact with the friends we've made here and embrace our new opportunities as they come. I wish everyone the best of luck and a bright future.

SHM Rap (*this is a joke)

Before I came to SHM
I only knew about over-the-counter medicine
I wasn't hip on the prescription flow
Doctors are cool, when you're feeling low
What's a hospitalist bro?!
Really man, you really don't know?
A hospitalist is a next level dude
A doctor with the illest attitude
The job is to treat patients living in hospital rooms
They work seven days, seven off, so they can chill I presume
DeeDee gets them to pay their dues
Elaine puts up with their attitudes!
Todd keeps the whole company on track
I'll miss working here, maybe someday I'll come back (:
Everyone is swell,
we know each other quite well
Time for goodbyes, but it is what it is
My new back up plan is to be a hospitalist! (just kidding)

Poem Time!

SHM you will be missed,
Flat Shawn can I have just one last kiss?
All the staff here was so great,
Oh boy do I love fate,
The marketing team and free food are what I'll miss most,
It's cute how Scott and Jamie are so close,
SHM you're making such amazing hc improvements,
I'm proud to say I was apart of this movement.

So long, and thanks for all the fish

I feel as though my movie quotes are not getting put to good use on you all. I've started to, though not every week, throw a movie quote into my posts (started in January). Here are a list of the quotes I've quoted, along with there movie title:

"Four questions enter, only one question leaves..." This is a variation of the line used in Roman Gladiator fights back in 200BC. It was used in "Mad Max and the Thunderdome" as well as the trailers for "Battle Royale" and "The Hunger Games"

"Trading Jobs: SHM Edition" is actually from TV. it throws together the titles of "Trading Spouses" and "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" while using SHM and jobs to pertain to the blog question.

"Are you not entertained?!" is a direct quote from the movie "Gladiator"

"So long, and thanks for all the fish" is from the movie/book series "Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy"

Oh. That's only four quotes. Hmm. Guess I didn't quote as often as I thought I did. I personally like the last quote (which is this post's title) the best because it signifies both leaving SHM, as well as my nickname. At least, I assume Tuna eat fish.

Want a science joke? Whats the most bipolar thing in existence at the subatomic level? Electrons!

For those that don't get it, Electrons are both a wave and a particle depending on various circumstances. Electrons can seemingly flow back in time to change themselves from a particle to a wave if you change the circumstances mid experiment! They just can't make up their mind, constantly changing from a Wave to a Particle! Hahaha SCIENCE!

What's that? You think I'm rambling on now? Silly, "Ramble On" is a Led Zeppelin song. How can I be a song?

Ok, serious time now. I saw what Jess posted and may I say, that is a wonderful cause and I wish you all the luck in raising money. I have seen two people have a seizure, it's scary. I wish you and your family the best of luck. I would also like to say, with the medical advances in the last 50 years, don't ever give up on a cure. I have a Grandmother with Breast Cancer, a really good friend with Brain Cancer, an Aunt with Breast Cancer, and I never give up hope that a cure will be found.

Now, I know you all probably don't want my advice, nor should you need it. Times are getting harder. The Economy is looking bleak, gas prices have been doing nothing but rising. In these hard times, we look to others to raise our spirits, to share our hardships with. Surround yourself with the people you love. Surround yourself with the people you enjoy spending time with. Try to be nice to everyone, you don't know what they've been through. That being said, do not judge a person by the hardships they've endured. Judge them by the content of their character. Judge everyone by the content of their character, and nothing else.

I'm going to miss you all. It's been one heck of a ride, these last 6 months. It is an experience I won't ever forget. Thank you all for everything, and have a great life!

Farewells

It is unreal that co-op is about to end! Where did time go? It will be sad to say goodbye to all of the staff when that time comes especially Education and QI on the windowless side of the office. It is great to see how everybody's hard work is starting to come together; registrations from the education standpoint might top the biggest meeting we've ever had (HM10) and hearing about that big award that QI won is also a great accomplishment. Marketing has also did a fantastic job with advertising the sweepstakes and generating new interest in HM12. Even after my co-op is over, I hope to continue researching the Society of Hospital Medicine and what news is generated in relation to HM12. Even though there were stressful days it was a great opportunity to be apart of this team for the past six months. I wish eveyone luck in the future and I hope that the staff have an awesome trip and experience at HM12 in San Diego.
:)

What to Write About

The worst part about leaving this time of year is missing out on all of our hard work at HM12. I've been lucky enough to be involved in many projects surrounding HM12 and all of the advertising that goes into it. I can even tell you what the convention center blueprint looks like and where each ad is going where. It would be really great to see all of marketing's hard work over the past year come together at HM12. I think the rest of the office will really come to appreciate all that the marketing department has done when they take a look at the convention center and the hotel and see every little detail that we have put into it. I'm sure the attendees will be just as impressed and thoroughly enjoy how everything has come together in San Diego. I wish the best of luck to everyone for a successful annual meeting.

Seize the Day

On December 2nd, 2010, I witnessed my younger sister, Julia, having a seizure for the first time. A few weeks later, she was diagnosed with Primary Epilepsy. She was only 13. Luckily, her seizures have been somewhat controlled by medication. However, there are many other people out there dealing with this condition and who have it worse. Seeing first hand how Epilepsy can affect a person and their family, my sister and I have decided we want to help and do our best to make a difference.

We want to help those with epilepsy and their families realize that although every day is a struggle, they can get through it.

They are not alone.

They should always Seize The Day.

On Saturday March 31st, the day after I leave SHM, I will be going to Washington D.C. and leading a team in the 5th annual National Walk for Epilepsy. At this event, thousands will gather to support people living with epilepsy, their family and caregivers. I have been working hard to fundraise for this cause over the past few months and to date have accumulated $510. However, the goal I set for my team was $1000 and I am still hoping to get as close to that goal as possible. If you visit the National Walk for Epilepsy Website www.walkforepilepsy.org you can see how the Walk supports all the things the Epilepsy Foundation does funding research and ending discrimination against people with epilepsy, bringing awareness to seizure disorders, and educating the public about how to identify seizures and how to respond. I really hope you'll support me by spreading the word about this and joining my event on facebook or visiting my team page: https://www.facebook.com/#!/events/280673601953166/; http://efa.convio.net/site/TR/Walk/walk?team_id=22070&pg=team&fr_id=1920

Sorry if this is a random last post! I wasn't really sure what to write about & this event is really important to me so I thought it'd be a good time to tell you all about it! I also want to thank you all for a great co-op experience & wish you all well in the future! Hopefully I will see you around campus soon! :)

Alright, so you've given your advice, you've given your memories. What else is there?

As your very last blog post, write about whatever you want!

Here's My List:

List some things you will miss the most about life at SHM.Whether it's specific memories, free food, or things you learned. Ready......go!

The Marketing Department | Great Working Hours | Eating Lunch Outside | Games at MA Check-Ins | Lunch Sponsored by SHM | Working with the other MA’s | Holiday Party Karaoke | Casino Party | White Elephant | Whiteboards | Elaine at the Front Desk | Covering Phones (Kidding) | Office Pranks | Flat Shawn | SHM’s Social Media | All Staff Celebrations | Blupons | Cafeteria | PTO | Happy Hours | Learning New Things

Lastly, all the staff and everyone who makes SHM such an enjoyable place to work at. Everyone’s personality makes SHM the environment it is today, and I feel privileged to have been given the opportunity to work every day with such great people.

10 Days Left

Well, not including today.

It's surreal. 2 weeks left until my final day here at SHM. I would be lying if I said I wasn't look forward to classes. So much extra sleep opportunities. I'd also be lying if I said I'm not going to miss this place. The people, the work enviroment, and the opporunities have made this one of the best co-op experiences a Drexel student could wish for.

If I had to narrow it down to one thing, the thing I'd miss most about SHM, it would be the people who work here. My last co-op involved a vass majority of my co-workers consistently having their noses in the air. At SHM, its quite the opposite. While professionalism is a big part of SHM, so is having a workable work enviroment. People are allowed to sometimes just express themselves, to have a little humor, to have a little fun. The people who work here have taken potentially stressful jobs and made them great.

What I will miss...

There a quite a number of things that I will miss about life at SHM; I will miss my cubicle (where I've spent a lot of my time these past six months), the awesome people who work here, and I will miss the lunches that SHM provides us ocassionally. Oddly, I will even miss the travel I take to get her every morning; it is a time where I get to reflect on how my week is going and the tasks I have to do at work that week/day. Working at SHM was a great experience and these are only a few of the things I will miss!

The Final Countdown

There are plenty of things I will miss about SHM. Obviously the free food, laid back atmosphere, and the whole SHM staff. I will really miss working on some of the stuff I have done over the past 6 months. It was great to be able to come into work everyday and learn something new and potentially put on your resume. I really hope I will land my next co-op at a work environment like SHM and be given the opportunity to work on projects the way I did here. Walking into this job I never expected the amount of responsibility and control over my work. That is something I will truly miss and that will be hard to come by even in my next co-op experiences.

bye SHM.

What I'll miss the most about working here, simply put, is having a job. I love working, and I'd rather spend my days doing something productive than sitting in class(not that class isn't productive, just a preference) learning about what I'll be doing in the future or what I've already had the chance to do.

I'll miss SHM specifically, because it is just so unique. I had a lot of opportunities and experienced a lot of growth here, personal and professional. I certainly don't take those things lightly. I met a lot of people who I really enjoyed working with, and I hope I'll find that elsewhere in the future.

I will miss the membership department so much; they've been amazing and hilarious and so much fun to learn from.

Really, everyone has been pretty swell, I got a little spoiled. I hope my next group of co-workers compare (:

12 more days :(

I think the thing I will miss most about SHM is the fantastic staff & the work atmosphere. Everyone has been so nice from day one and has really made an effort to make the co-ops feel welcome & comfortable here. I love how supportive & helpful everyone always is towards each other. Although we work in different departments, I still feel like we really do work as a team and that has just been really awesome to see. I am also going to miss the relaxed atmosphere. I have a feeling my future jobs will be a little more stressful and I think I will end up missing how laid back everything was here.

Saving the Best for Last

What are you looking forward to the most about getting back to classes? We all know what you're not looking forward to is homework.

As much as I enjoy working and making money, going back to class will be a good change of pace. Not only am I looking forward to class, but I’ll be looking forward to the spring and summer weather that comes with it. The best part about being in class during the spring/summer is you get to enjoy the nice days outside and do not have cold walks to class in the snow. Another thing I will be looking forward to will be having no hockey and being able to relax a little more. Class is definitely a lot of work and a lot of studying, but it’s really nothing compared to my schedule in the fall/winter. I will be able to get back into the gym and have more free time than I typically am used to. Also, having the luxury of being able to nap in-between classes is great. Working full-time definitely makes you realize the benefits you have while in class. So, I will try not to take the free time I have for granted because the fall and season will be here before I know it.

What I'm most looking forward to...

What are you looking forward to the most about getting back to classes? We all know what you're not looking forward to is homework.

It's hard to believe that school is around the corner but I must say that the thing I'm most looking forward to is being able to walk around more and having less money to eat out; I know it's a simple answer but I have gained six pounds since coming here. This experience was awesome don't get me wrong but I'm looking forward to being able to shed a few pounds. :)

Snooze you lose

What I look forward to most is more sleep. If I were in an interview and was asked what animal I was like most, I'd say a cat. I love to cuddle up and take naps. Taking 1 to 2 naps a day is what I prefer, but since I'm on co-op that doesn't happen! On top of no naps, my roommate always wakes me up so early right now because she has to travel to NJ for co-op. Unfortunately, this won't change next term. I just found out yesterday my roommate is taking 8 AM classes next term, so my rem sleep is still going to be interrupted. I either have to invest in a good pair of earplugs or change the locks! ;)

work > school

The thing I miss the most about being in class, and the thing I'm most looking forward to about returning, is having more variety in my day. I love being outside, going places, seeing as many people as I can, and of course having a chance to just relax in the middle of the day. But honestly, I still prefer working to all of this. I feel like I've learned more applicable information in the past 6 months than in all of my freshman year courses.

Now that I've determined what it is I want to do with my life, I'm looking forward to being in classes that will expose me to that side of communications and the opportunities that will ensue. I'm also excited about being in a new city and getting to know new surroundings and a new group of people.

OCNJ :)

So, unfortunately my sleep schedule will remain the same once school starts. However, there are three reasons I am very much looking forward to going back to classes. First, I am only taking 14 credits which is my lightest course load yet (it used to be 18-20). Second, I get to do my first clinical rotation which is super exciting for me as a Nursing major. But, third -- overall I am most looking forward to having no class on Fridays & going to the shore! I have a shore house in ocean city and despite having a spring/summer class cycle, I am very much looking forward to being able to do my homework down there on the beach every weekend I possibly can! :)

Good Call Jordan

I couldn't agree with you more Jordan. Sleeping in is going to be AMAZING. While on co-op I feel like there just aren't enough hours in the day. Even though its winter the one thing that always bums me out is how I never see the daylight. I only get to be outside in the sun for about 20 minutes a day between walking to work and walking back home. By the time I'm back at my apartment its almost always pitch black out. Being a person who loves being outside, that will be the great part about having a regular school schedule. Not to make you jealous Jordan but I don't have class until 12 everyday and no classes Tuesday, that's sleeping in at its finest.

Sleeping in

The thing I'm most looking forward to is being able to sleep in. My earliest class is 9:30. This means, I can sleep till 9 oclock as opposed to 7:30. I don't have class on Monday's either! I don't have to do stuff (besides homework) on Mondays. Technically, my Tuesday's count as my Mondays but only having to go to class 4 days a week will be magical.

Also, I love those breaks in the middle of the day between classes were I can just sit down and relax. I miss those.
All of your days are numbered, and it makes me sad.

What are you looking forward to the most about getting back to classes? We all know what
you're not looking forward to is homework.

Potatoes

So, when I first saw the question, the first thing that came to my mind was spaghetti because you can do so many different things with it. But, since Jordan already said that, I would have to say potatoes. I love potatoes in all forms. Mashed, baked, chips, fries..I love it all and would have zero problem eating only potatoes forever. :)

♥♥♥

I live for food. I really don't think anyone understands. Take me seriously. I love food more than you could ever imagine. To me this question is almost cruel because it's stripping food of its most amazing quality -- the fact that it's so diverse!

If it really came down to it, I could live off of cupcakes. I kid you not. They aren't necessarily the best thing I've ever tasted, but somehow they make me happier than any other food does. I love the way cupcakes look, the way they smell while they're baking, the fact that as small as they are they still pack so much flavor, the way the icing compliments the cake perfectly... I could go on and on, but they're simply amazing. I could eat a cupcake for breakfast without icing (a muffin), carrot cake or pumpkin cake for lunch, probably vanilla for dinner as to not interfere with my obvious dessert choices--red velvet with cream cheese frosting or a smores cupcake filled with chocolate ganache, topped with marshmallow icing and grambcracker crumbs.

Now I've never tried one, but apparently people also eat savory cucpakes. Maple-bacon cupcakes are popular, so those could rotate with the afformentioned muffins as a breakfast item. I've seen sushi cupcakes on Food Network, and if I was ever feeling bold enough, I might consider trying one for a lighter lunch. Anything past that is a little too weird for me (I'm sure someone's tried--and failed--to make a cheeseburger cupcake before).

The point is, I'd make it work and I would love every minute of it. Unfortunately, I'm sure my life span would drastically decrease after a few weeks of such healthy diet choices, but you have to roll with the punches.

American Fries

If I had to eat one item of food for the rest of my life, it would be french fries. As unhealthy as it may sound, I eat fries almost every day. They can be prepared in so many ways. You can have plain fries, cheese fries, ketch-up fries, and when I'm feeling extra fancy Cali-fries. No matter how hard I try, I never get tired of fries! Fries are my weakness in life.
