Blog Master

If I had to create 4 questions for the MAs to answer every week I would ask....

1) If you could improve one aspect of SHM what would it be and why?

2) What is the coolest destination that you have traveled to and why?

3) As an co-op, what advice do you want to pass along to future co-ops? How would you describe your experience at SHM so far?

4) If you had to cut off either your hands or your feet, which would it be and why?

For Meredith, my friend, I know that you worked at some cold and dark place for your first co-op and now SHM for your last two...between all of the work and experiences you have had, do you know what specific kind of job you want to have after graduation and where you would ideally like to work? Basically what does the next 5 years of your life ideally look like? Thanks!

Hmm...I guess my questions would be:

1.) If you could change one thing about your working here, what would you change?
2.) If you could have a co-op anywhere, where would it be?
3.) Why do you think we have to do a blog every week?
4.) Would you consider coming back to SHM when you graduate?

And my question for Meredith:

Did you ask to come back to SHM when your co-op was done or something? How are you still here, I guess would be a better question lol

I did this a little early because I'm not going to be here tomorrow. Have a good weekend everyone :)

It's Your Turn...

So here's an idea:

If you had to come up with a month's worth of blog questions, what four questions would you ask?

In addition, as a fun aspect to this week, I want each of you to ask me a question. It can be silly or serious, you get to decide. I figure it's about time I post a response on this thing, right?

Happy hump day (I'm sleepy).

What I hope to accomplish...

What do I hope to accomplish in my last two months here at SHM? I cannot believe I have already been here for 4 months and I have learned so much about Membership and our Marketing department.

For my remaining time here I hope to finish the new Membership MA manual, all of our chapter coding in iMIS with our new chapters, the MA website, and to continue learning. While I have learned so much I think there are things that I can continue to improve my knowledge of or take on new projects.

Sorry I am having writers block (it could be that today is Friday and my half day...) but I would like to enjoy my last two months at SHM and make it a co-op to always remember.
Wow. 2 months left...weird. I can't believe it's almost over. I have definitely enjoyed my time here so far. Being at SHM really boosted my work ethic. When I get back to classes, I feel like I'm going to be really ready to work hard (exact opposite of me last year, when I was a lazy blob). For my last 2 months, what I really hope to accomplish is being the best QI assistant EVER. I know that sounds horribly cliche (and I really hate sounding cliche...), but I want to be remembered as the golden co-op student that was always on top of her work and who was thought of more as an excellent employee, rather than a decent intern. I want to be the one who set the standards high for the future co-op students.
Yeah, that's about right.

Well since I lack the time and complete current motivation to do a video post (plus the fact I'm not nearly as studly as the OldSpice guy, so it's rather intimidating), I think I'm just going to do this post. Winding down to the end of this co-op is bittersweet. I'm ready to go back to classes, but yet at the same time I don't want to leave. I have learned so much about the work field and about myself in this job that it's something that I know I can keep going up. With my last few months here, I would like to keep continuing to learn about Social Media and it's workings. I'm getting better at writing posts and coming up with them, but it is also helping me with PR type writing. SHABAM.
Four months down, two more to go!!!!!

Well I have to say, my time here at SHM is flying by. It's been a great expereiece so far, but there is still alot to get done in my final two months. One of those things all the Co-op's must accomplish before we leave is our "Co-op Project" we just found out about in the beginning of the week. I'm looking forward to the project because this can be one of our many different trademarks we left on the office. There's also a few different ongoing projects I'm going to be finsihing up, Marketing Menu, Company Profiling, etc. But all-n-all, I can only hope the next two months can be as entertaining and enjoyable as the past four months.

Swan Dive!

What I really, really wish I could have you all do is your own rendition of an Old Spice commercial, but I just did a video blog question last week. If you wanna have some fun this week and do it on your own, feel free to do an independent post! (I expect to see ones from Cassidy and Tom, at LEAST) Anyway, as for this weeks' question:

You've got 2 months left! SCARY. What do you hope to accomplish?

...THIS BLOG POST IS NOW DIAMONDS.

Besides the great opportunity and enviroment at SHM, it is convenintly located at 15th and Spring Garden. This location is just a short ride on the FREE Drexel shuttle or a short ride on the subway.

I am a little late replying to this post. (I must have gotten caught up in July 4th mode last week) But while I was looking for a co-op, and doing the entire interview process, SHM really caught my attention. It wasn;t just because of the pizza they supplied to me on my interview, but just how everyone was laughing and down to earth. It just looked like a great environment to work at; and wasn't I right about that one. I have the rest of my life to make money, but this time in my life is crucial in getting experience, and understanding what it is like in the "real world." I am very happy with my decision to work here at SHM. I am learning, networking, and enjoying myyself at the same time.

Can't beat that!

Can you sell?

It's time to do another video blog! I want each of you to create a sales pitch for a future MA/DA/QIA to work here.

Ready...go!
Interviews... Oh man how I dislike them. Questions to where there are no right answers, yet no wrong ones, and being able to describe yourself in about three minutes kinda puts a stressful toll on someone. For co-op, I was originally intending on going abroad to Switzerland thanks to my cousin, but that fell through last minute. After completely blowing off most of A round and all of B round, I was just thankful that I applied to C. Ashley called me after our resumes were released and asked me to come in for an interview that day and, honestly, I thought it was nuts. My mom and I bolted into the city from KOP (thankfully we bought interview clothes that day) and I was in no way mentally ready for it; but then I actually entered SHM. The fun atmosphere was felt immediately and I had a hard time not being over-excited about the whole situation. Now that I'm actually here, I am completely happy with my decision to come back the following week to begin working. This job has really helped me realize more what I want to do for my career and I incredibly happy I didn't end up at a high-maintenance job with un-fun people. Love ya, SHM.

Well when I interviwed at SHM, Ken was the person interviewing me. I usually get very scared to talk to people that I am not comfortable around, but the atmosphere here seemed so laid back that I really wasn't that nervous. By just being myself, I was able to show Ken what I was capable of. Coming to SHM, I grew I feel not only as a person, but in knowledge as well. I found that I really enjoy marketing and the opportunities it offers me in the future. So, I would say be true to who you are and go into a new experience with open arms because you never know what you'll like or won't like.
Choosing my first co-op was a little difficult for me. I could have either chosen this job or a job that pays double what I get paid here. I figured that for my first co-op , I wanted a job that wouldn't completely stress me out and have ridiculously long hours. The other job paid well, but it was pretty bland. I would rather generally enjoy what I'm doing than to get paid a lot for a job I'll hate.
I can't believe we are more than halfway done.
I'm very happy with my decision and I'm going to miss working here when we have to leave. I know that my next co-op won't feed me as well as SHM lol.
Didn't hear it in an interview, but during my interviewing process, my mom was constantly reminding me that there are more important aspects of a job than money.
When I was deciding between the places that offered me co-ops, I was torn between here, and returning to my last co-op employer at the Korman Center on Drexel's campus. Korman pays significantly more than this position does, so I'll admit I was leaning towards them for a while. I was talking with my mom who kept hammering on the point that at my age, I should concern myself more with getting valuable experiences in my life, rather than working simply for a wage. Of course, I was just about to move into a new apartment, so I was hesitant to work for less.

Obviously, I ended up going with my mom's advice. It was very good advice.

The Other Side of Interviewing

Wow does it feel different to be on the other side of the interviewing table! When I came to SHM it was my last of quite a few interviews and boy was I ready for the process to be over. That feeling completely changed when I walked into SHM. I instantly got the feeling that SHM was a young and energetic place that would be fun to work at.

Besides how I felt when I first entered, I will always tell people when describing SHM that is a great place to grow and learn, not just about yourself in the workplace but also as a person. At SHM you can grow and learn not just about the department in which you were hired, you are given and sometimes forced (in a good way) to work with other departments on different projects. So far since I have been here, I have worked with our Membership, Marketing, Education, Website, and Finance departments on various projects.

Being a co-op at SHM was one of the best decisions that I have ever made. I have learned so much about what SHM has to offer and how a business really runs. Beyond learning, I have made many friends with my fellow co-workers who make me feel at home every day at work. I have also been able to grow as a person. SHM is a wonderful place to work, I hope that you are giving the opportunity to work here and develop into the young professional that you want to be.
