Last, But Not Least

I figured since I'm usually the last person to post I shouldn't change that for the last week.

Also, since everyone is writing creative raps and poems I'm not really sure how I can top them. I was going to write a rap, but Kirstin already did that.

All I have left to say is that I've had a great experience working for SHM. It's honestly the most enjoyable job I've had and it was a pleasure to work with everyone on the staff, from the marketing team all the way to IT. Everyone at SHM represents what the company is all about and I hope the culture remains the same for years to come. I hope we can stay in contact with the friends we've made here and embrace our new opportunities as they come. I wish everyone the best of luck and a bright future.

I feel as though my movie quotes are not getting put to good use on you all. I've started to, though not every week, throw a movie quote into my posts (started in January). Here are a list of the quotes I've quoted, along with there movie title:

"Four questions enter, only one question leaves..." This is a variation of the line used in Roman Gladiator fights back in 200BC. It was used in "Mad Max and the Thunderdome" as well as the trailers for "Battle Royale" and "The Hunger Games"

"Trading Jobs: SHM Edition" is actually from TV. it throws together the titles of "Trading Spouses" and "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" while using SHM and jobs to pertain to the blog question.

"Are you not entertained?!" is a direct quote from the movie "Gladiator"

"So long, and thanks for all the fish" is from the movie/book series "Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy"

Oh. That's only four quotes. Hmm. Guess I didn't quote as often as I thought I did. I personally like the last quote (which is this post's title) the best because it signifies both leaving SHM, as well as my nickname. At least, I assume Tuna eat fish.

Want a science joke? Whats the most bipolar thing in existence at the subatomic level? Electrons!

For those that don't get it, Electrons are both a wave and a particle depending on various circumstances. Electrons can seemingly flow back in time to change themselves from a particle to a wave if you change the circumstances mid experiment! They just can't make up their mind, constantly changing from a Wave to a Particle! Hahaha SCIENCE!

What's that? You think I'm rambling on now? Silly, "Ramble On" is a Led Zeppelin song. How can I be a song?

Ok, serious time now. I saw what Jess posted and may I say, that is a wonderful cause and I wish you all the luck in raising money. I have seen two people have a seizure, it's scary. I wish you and your family the best of luck. I would also like to say, with the medical advances in the last 50 years, don't ever give up on a cure. I have a Grandmother with Breast Cancer, a really good friend with Brain Cancer, an Aunt with Breast Cancer, and I never give up hope that a cure will be found.

Now, I know you all probably don't want my advice, nor should you need it. Times are getting harder. The Economy is looking bleak, gas prices have been doing nothing but rising. In these hard times, we look to others to raise our spirits, to share our hardships with. Surround yourself with the people you love. Surround yourself with the people you enjoy spending time with. Try to be nice to everyone, you don't know what they've been through. That being said, do not judge a person by the hardships they've endured. Judge them by the content of their character. Judge everyone by the content of their character, and nothing else.

I'm going to miss you all. It's been one heck of a ride, these last 6 months. It is an experience I won't ever forget. Thank you all for everything, and have a great life!

Farewells

It is unreal that co-op is about to end! Where did time go? It will be sad to say goodbye to all of the staff when that time comes especially Education and QI on the windowless side of the office. It is great to see how everybody's hard work is starting to come together; registrations from the education standpoint might top the biggest meeting we've ever had (HM10) and hearing about that big award that QI won is also a great accomplishment. Marketing has also did a fantastic job with advertising the sweepstakes and generating new interest in HM12. Even after my co-op is over, I hope to continue researching the Society of Hospital Medicine and what news is generated in relation to HM12. Even though there were stressful days it was a great opportunity to be apart of this team for the past six months. I wish eveyone luck in the future and I hope that the staff have an awesome trip and experience at HM12 in San Diego.

What to Write About

The worst part about leaving this time of year is missing out on all of our hard work at HM12. I've been lucky enough to be involved in many projects surrounding HM12 and all of the advertising that goes into it. I can even tell you what the convention center blueprint looks like and where each ad is going where. It would be really great to see all of marketing's hard work over the past year come together at HM12. I think the rest of the office will really come to appreciate all that the marketing department has done when they take a look at the convention center and the hotel and see every little detail that we have put into it. I'm sure the attendees will be just as impressed and thoroughly enjoy how everything has come together in San Diego. I wish the best of luck to everyone for a successful annual meeting.

Seize the Day

On December 2nd, 2010, I witnessed my younger sister, Julia, having a seizure for the first time. A few weeks later, she was diagnosed with Primary Epilepsy. She was only 13. Luckily, her seizures have been somewhat controlled by medication. However, there are many other people out there dealing with this condition and who have it worse. Seeing first hand how Epilepsy can affect a person and their family, my sister and I have decided we want to help and do our best to make a difference.

We want to help those with epilepsy and their families realize that although every day is a struggle, they can get through it.

They are not alone.

They should always Seize The Day.

On Saturday March 31st, the day after I leave SHM, I will be going to Washington D.C. and leading a team in the 5th annual National Walk for Epilepsy. At this event, thousands will gather to support people living with epilepsy, their family and caregivers. I have been working hard to fundraise for this cause over the past few months and to date have accumulated $510. However, the goal I set for my team was $1000 and I am still hoping to get as close to that goal as possible. If you visit the National Walk for Epilepsy Website www.walkforepilepsy.org you can see how the Walk supports all the things the Epilepsy Foundation does funding research and ending discrimination against people with epilepsy, bringing awareness to seizure disorders, and educating the public about how to identify seizures and how to respond. Sorry if this is a random last post! I wasn't really sure what to write about & this event is really important to me so I thought it'd be a good time to tell you all about it!
